What Matters to Young Mums?

Read the report

Between October 2016 and February 2017 we conducted research with mothers aged under 25 to find out what was important to them, and what they thought about work, children and employment support.

Our research has found that one in four young mothers in the UK has experienced discrimination when their employer found out they were pregnant. Young mums also reported experiencing loneliness and being discriminated against when looking for jobs and

food banks

“It is in everyone’s interest to help young mothers who want to work. As our findings show, young mothers have a huge amount to contribute to their workplaces and many want to be financially independent and support their families. Tackling discrimination would benefit mums, businesses and the economy as a whole." - Dr Carole Easton OBE
