The Government have said that they will champion the rights of women and girls and promote full economic and political participation but we want to see this backed up by action.
Katharine Sacks-Jones, Chief Executive at Young Women’s Trust, said: “At a time when misogyny and sexism are on the rise, a commitment to championing the rights of women and girls is welcome. But, if they’re really serious, we need to see real action detailing how this is going to happen. It’s disappointing not to see a mention of the Equality (Race and Disability) Bill in today’s speech – this would provide next steps on tackling inequality and closing pay gaps. The intersection between gender, race and disability leaves women exposed to three pay gaps combined so this bill is vital for all marginalised women. We urge the Government to build on the progress that has already been made and push forward with this important measure for tackling workplace inequality.”
