Young Women’s Trust responds to the Government’s plans to address the rising number of young people not in education, training or employment.
Katharine Sacks-Jones, Chief Executive at Young Women’s Trust, says:
“Whilst we welcome measures to help young people into work, the Government must recognise that unemployed young people are not a single, homogeneous group.
The number of young women out of work is rising, with higher rates of economic inactivity than amongst young men. This is due to distinct challenges, including more mental ill health and a disproportionate burden of unpaid caring responsibilities.
The government must take into account these underlying issues and provide meaningful help as well as ensuring there are flexible work opportunities for young women.”
