Work it out brings a smile
What makes me smile? Speaking to young women in person and seeing the smiles on their faces when they talk about our Work It Out coaching service and how it’s helped them. It makes me smile knowing that I am a part of a team that’s helping these young women.
Being a young women myself I have come across many difficulties in terms of finding the right job or even finding a job. Having gone through similar struggles I understand and know how difficult it can be without the right support.
Knowing how difficult it is for young women I decided to become a member of the Young Women’s Trust advisory panel as I wanted to be a part of a team that helps other young women achieve their full potential. So far, we have shared our views in many ways and helped shape the services Young Women’s Trust provides.
Work It Out is a service that helps young women with work, life and building confidence. We launched the pilot scheme because many young women told us that they didn’t have the right support to help them find the right path and take the next step.
That was certainly how I felt before joining Young Women’s Trust as a trainee earlier this year, and since then my main focus has been supporting the Work It Out coaching service. It would have been great if Work It Out was available for me at an earlier stage as I would not have struggled as much and life would have been much easier.
So far the service has been going great. I have visited a few job centres in the Royal Borough of Greenwich to tell young women who are not in employment, education or training (NEET) about the service. It was upsetting hearing about the difficulties many of these young women face, which emphasised to me just how important this service is.
Having visited the job centres on more than one occasion I have come across a few young women who have started using the service and they have told me how it’s helped them. It is great getting positive feedback from the young women who have used the service and found it very useful, and are also looking forward to their next session.
